THE POLLENÇA MUNICIPALITY

The Pollença Municipality is one of the most delightful in Mallorca, combining sea, countryside and mountains with great natural and cultural wealth.
It is situated in the NE of the island of Mallorca, 52 Km away from Palma. The mountainous area offers wonderful scenery, full of natural charm and ideal for many excursions.
THE CITY OF POLLENÇA
A town which represents glorious and versatile. It is a place which was chosen from famous inhabitants of island.
Located in the valley enclosed by the Puig de Maria and the Calvari, Pollença is the main municipal centre, with over 8,000 inhabitants. Its old town, dating back to the 18 th century, is made up of a series of narrow streets and emblematic buildings such as the Calvari, the Parish Church, the Cloister of Sant Domingo and the Jesuit School, among others.
PORT DE POLLENÇA
Port de Pollença is one of Majorca’s main tourist enclaves, and is the municipality’s second centre of population. At the end of a wide bay lies the fortress known as “La Fortalesa”, protected by the “Punta de l’Avançada” (Advance Party Point). It was constructed in 1624 as is now private property. Port de Pollença is a modern tourist resort and also the ideal place for practising all kinds of water sports and for enjoying the wildlife.
CALA SANT VICENÇ
Cala Sant Vicenç is the municipalities third largest centre of population. It is noteworthy for its peaceful character and lovely scenery. Here you can find one of Pollença’s most characteristic images, Cavall Bernat, at whose feet lies a group of coves with crystal clear waters: Cala Barques, Cala Molins, Cala Carbó and Cala Clara. Here you can find the group of 7 prehistoric Alzinaret caves, hailing from the Mediterranean Bronze Age.
FORMENTOR
Formentor is one of the loveliest and most visited places on our island, a meeting place for intellectuals, politicians and artists. The road from Formentor to the Lighthouse (el Far) passes alongside coves of incomparable beauty: Cala Figuera, Cala Murta and Cala En Gossalba.. The road ends at Formentor lighthouse, the northernmost point of the island of Majorca. The Colomer viewing point and the Albercuix watchtower are a must to visit.

ART & CULTURE

From the earliest years of the 20 th century Pollença became a favourite place for painters visiting the island. Many artists have contributed with their works (literature and painting) to making Pollença well-known both in and outside Majorca. Pollença is still renowned in the world of art and culture thanks to public initiatives like the International Music Festival and Pollença Museum, and to private initiatives.

FESTIVAL DE POLLENÇA - Festival Internacional de Música de Pollença
An outstanding feature of Pollença's cultural image is the Festival of Classical Music which has been held annually in the cloister of Sant Domingo over the months of July and August since 1961. During its 40 years of uninterrupted existence and constant evolution, festival goers have been able to listen to Mstislav Rostropovich, Jessye Norman, Alban Berg Quartett, Montserrat Caballé and the National Orchestra of France with Lorin Maazel.
Pollença Festival – presided by Her Majesty Queen Sofia - has been a member of the European Association of Festivals for many years

CALA SANT VICENÇ - COVES BLANQUES
Itinerary
The excursion starts at 100m. before arriving to Cala Barques (Boats Inlet). On the way we will find a land road that crosses a little wood. After crossing a gate, the path goes down to some tunnels built during the 40's.
When we arrive to the third tunnel, the way disappears and we should be guided by the "fites" (milestones) or stone signals and continue descending till surrounding the cliff. We can cross it, and at about 300m. we will be able to observe some big pine trees that will be our reference. If we continue descending we will be able to arrive to Cala Castell (White Castle), distinguishing the Castell del Rei (King's Castle) at the back.
Length: two hours. Difficulty: medium. Type of itinerary: land road and track. Private property.

POLLENÇA - PUIG DE MARIA
Itinerary.
The track starts at 100 metres from the monument to Costa i Llobera towards Pollença-Palma. It starts to go up between small pieces of land called "Costers" and is introduced into the holm-oak area that covers the major part of the mountain.
When the cement path finishes the ascent starts with a track of stones and in the first curve we find the "Cadireta del Bon Jesús" (Jesus little chair) and next to it "La cova del Dimoni" (The Devil's cave). Without leaving the path and once we get to the top we surround the tower and arrive to the rests of a windmill, then we can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the island. Although a big part of the excursion can be done by car, we recommend you to do it on foot.
Length: approximately 45 min. Difficulty: medium. Type of itinerary: asphalted road and stone path.
CALA BÓQUER
Itinerary.
The road starts in Port de Pollença. At the left of the Formentor road there is a path surrounded by pine trees, that is the entrance to the "Possessió de Bóquer" (Bóquer's Property).
Once there, crossing an iron gate, passing through two big rocks and after the green pine trees area, we can observe the archeologic jewel of the area, a group of one of the most important nave style constructions known and a lime oven that was active until 1935. We arrive to the "Cases de la Vall" (Valley Houses) from where the hole called "L'ull de Bou" (The Ox eye) of the "Cavall Bernat" (Bernat's Horse) can be seen. Nearby we find the "Font de la Cala" (Inlet's Fountain) from where the way to Cala Bóquer and the "Cova del Vellmar" (Old Sea Cave) begins.
